Overview

A matrikine peptide, not an expression-line peptide

Matrixyl is the trade name for Palmitoyl Pentapeptide-4 — commonly written as pal-KTTKS — originated by Sederma. Its peptide portion, KTTKS, is a subfragment of type I procollagen. Fragments of this kind are known as matrikines: signalling molecules that the skin recognises as markers of matrix turnover.

That mechanism is what distinguishes it commercially. Argireline and SNAP-8 target SNAP-25 and are positioned around expression lines. Matrixyl works through an entirely different route, in the collagen-support and skin-firmness space. The two categories complement rather than compete, which is why multi-peptide serums so often contain one from each.

SARMs-Direct supplies wholesale Matrixyl as powder or solution to skincare brands, cosmetic manufacturers, ingredient distributors, formulation laboratories and private label buyers. All supply is GMP-certified with full batch documentation and a COA included.

Different mechanism

Matrikine signalling — complements expression-line peptides rather than duplicating them.

Very low use levels

Active at parts-per-million, giving favourable cost-in-use.

Lipophilic

The palmitoyl chain aids delivery but affects solubility — see the formulation notes.

Which peptide does what

We supply four cosmetic peptides across three distinct mechanisms. Brands building a multi-peptide line typically take one from each column rather than several from one.

For your formulators

Formulation considerations

Matrixyl handles quite differently from the water-soluble peptides. These are the points that come up most often.

Working with Matrixyl

  • It is lipophilic, not water soluble. The palmitoyl chain that aids skin delivery also limits solubility in water. Neat powder needs a suitable solubilising system — which is why many formulators prefer to buy it as a ready-made solution.
  • Use levels are very low. It works in the parts-per-million range, so accurate dosing matters more than with most actives. A pre-diluted solution removes a lot of weighing error at production scale.
  • Add in the cool-down phase. Avoid prolonged high-temperature processing, as with peptides generally.
  • Colourless. Unlike GHK-Cu it won't tint your base.
  • Pairs cleanly with expression-line peptides. Different mechanism, no known conflict — the standard combination in multi-peptide serums.

General formulation guidance only. Use levels, stability and compatibility should be validated in your own formulation and stability testing.

Matrixyl FAQs

Frequently asked questions

What is Matrixyl?
Matrixyl is the trade name for Palmitoyl Pentapeptide-4, commonly written as pal-KTTKS and originated by Sederma. Its peptide portion is a subfragment of type I procollagen — a matrikine — and it is used in cosmetic formulation for collagen-support and firmness positioning.
What is the CAS number for Matrixyl?
The CAS number is 214047-00-4. The molecular formula is C₃₉H₇₅N₇O₁₀ with a molecular weight of approximately 802.1 g/mol.
How is Matrixyl different from Argireline or SNAP-8?
Different mechanism entirely. Argireline and SNAP-8 target SNAP-25 and are positioned around expression lines. Matrixyl works through matrikine signalling in the collagen-support space. They complement each other, which is why multi-peptide serums commonly contain one from each category.
Is Matrixyl water soluble?
Not readily. The palmitoyl chain makes it lipophilic, which aids skin delivery but limits water solubility as neat powder. It needs a suitable solubilising system, which is why many formulators prefer to buy it as a pre-diluted solution.
What is the difference between Matrixyl and Matrixyl 3000?
Matrixyl refers to Palmitoyl Pentapeptide-4. Matrixyl 3000 is a different, later blend based on Palmitoyl Tripeptide-1 and Palmitoyl Tetrapeptide-7. They are distinct materials with distinct INCI listings — contact us if you need the 3000-type peptides quoted.
Do you offer white label Matrixyl supply?
Yes. White label and private label supply is available for skincare brands and cosmetic manufacturers. Contact us to discuss formulation, packaging and volume requirements.
