Overview
A PPARδ agonist — not a SARM
Cardarine (GW-501516) is a synthetic agonist of the peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor delta (PPARδ). It has no activity at the androgen receptor, which means it is not a SARM despite being routinely grouped with them by suppliers and search engines. It was developed jointly by GlaxoSmithKline and Ligand Pharmaceuticals, and was investigated for dyslipidaemia and metabolic syndrome before development was discontinued.
SARMs-Direct supplies wholesale Cardarine in raw powder and encapsulated formats to research institutions, laboratories and qualified B2B distributors. All supply is strictly B2B and sold for laboratory research purposes only. Given this compound's development history and regulatory status, we ask buyers to read the notes below.
Different receptor
PPARδ agonist — no androgen receptor activity at all.
Development halted
Discontinued in 2007 following preclinical toxicology findings.
WADA prohibited
Banned in sport under the metabolic modulators category.

Important
Safety & regulatory status
We state this openly because professional buyers evaluating this compound need an accurate picture, and because it directly affects how it can lawfully be supplied and used.
Development discontinued following toxicology findings
Development of GW-501516 was halted in 2007. Long-duration rodent carcinogenicity studies conducted at high doses reported tumour development across multiple organ systems, and the programme was not taken forward. No clinical development has resumed since.
Prohibited in sport. Cardarine is listed by the World Anti-Doping Agency as a prohibited substance under the metabolic modulators category, and WADA has previously issued a direct public warning to athletes regarding its use.
Supplied for laboratory research only. This compound is not approved for human consumption by any regulatory authority, is not a dietary supplement ingredient, and must not be sold or represented for human use. Buyers are responsible for ensuring their intended use and onward supply comply with the regulations of their jurisdiction.

Research context
Mechanism & development history
PPARδ is a nuclear receptor involved in the regulation of lipid metabolism and substrate utilisation. Agonists of this receptor alter the transcription of genes governing how tissues metabolise fatty acids and glucose, which is why the pathway attracted pharmaceutical interest for dyslipidaemia and metabolic syndrome.
GW-501516 was developed as a selective PPARδ agonist by GlaxoSmithKline in collaboration with Ligand Pharmaceuticals, and progressed through early clinical evaluation for lipid disorders. Preclinical work also examined its effects on endurance and substrate utilisation in animal models, which is the origin of the "Endurobol" nickname and much of its subsequent notoriety.
Development was discontinued in 2007 after long-duration rodent studies at high doses reported carcinogenic findings. The compound remains available as a research chemical and continues to appear in academic literature on PPARδ signalling, but there is no active clinical development programme and no approved human application.
